Quercus ellipsoidalis (northern pin oak, hills oak, yellow oak)
This species originates from northern North America and is somewhat similar to the red oak. The leaves are deeply indented. The autumn coloration is almost unique (partly LILA!)
The tree grows up to 15 meters high. The bark is sometimes colored yellow in its bulges (hence the name “yellow oak”). Quercus ellipsoidalis likes calcareous soils, tolerates wet soil, is EXTREMELY hardy, and is also suitable as an urban tree (but does not tolerate paving).
